The Kalahari desert is located in Southern Africa, stretching 930,000 over most of Botswana, part of Namibia and part of South Africa. Lake Ngami and the Zambezi River are to the north of the desert, while the Orange River is to the south. This desert is approximately 900 metres above sea level.
The Kalahari is mostly covered by reddish sand. They are broken by dry lake beds. The dunes that are common in the south-western part of the desert reach anywhere from 6 to 60 metres in height.
